Kisses and Lies by Lauren Henderson

A nice mix of mystery, romance and coming into your own!  Scarlett Wakefield has her first kiss with the guy she’s been crushing on for what seems like forever.  The kiss was nice and everything she was hoping for  – but then Dan drops dead at her feet!  Can you imagine the horror and the stories that ensue from this horrible experience?  Something has to be done – Scarlett needs to find the answer – how did Dan die?  Why did Dan die?  Was it her fault?  With her good friend, Taylor, the two of them set off on an adventure to answers these questions. But along the way, Scarlett also discovers that she can kiss without killing 🙂

I enjoyed this book, it was a nice read with a great plot.  It has you asking who dunnit? Until the end!  I also learned that this is Lauren Henderson’s second book with Scarlett Wakefield as the main character – but the book was written in such a way that I took it as a standalone mystery!  The Publisher’s Weekly review stated: “[Henderson’s mini-sleuth has a natural glamour and intelligence that Nancy Drew can only dream of….”  I agree 100% as an avid Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew fan – that’s right on!

I’m looking forward now to reading about Scarlett’s next adventure in the Kiss in the Dark!

Favourite quote:

“Because something else I’ve learned is that some questions don’t have satisfactory answers, and asking them is like bashing your head against a brick wall till you’re bleeding.”    p. 290
